By submitting this application, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to the following terms.
1. Applications and Acceptance
Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance into the Fables Special Edition Consignment Program. Fables reviews each book, concept, and proposed edition individually and may accept, decline, waitlist, or request changes to an application.
No special edition will move into design, production, or sales until the author and Fables have agreed to the edition details, estimated costs, retail price, and project schedule.
2. Author Rights and Permissions
The author confirms that they own or control all rights necessary to create, reproduce, promote, and sell the proposed special edition.
The author must have permission to use all submitted content, including:
Manuscripts and bonus content
Cover designs and illustrations
Character artwork
Photographs, graphics, and textures
Fonts and decorative elements
Publisher or series branding
Any other third-party material
Fables may request evidence of ownership, licensing, or written permission. An application or project may be declined or canceled if the necessary rights cannot be confirmed.
3. Design Options
Authors may choose one of the following options:
Author-Provided Design
Fables will provide the author with the applicable templates, dimensions, file requirements, and placement guides. The author will be responsible for completing and submitting all required design files correctly.
Fables Design Service
The author may hire Fables to design and complete the special edition files. Design fees, included services, revision limits, and delivery timeframes will be confirmed separately before work begins.
Selecting the Fables Design Service does not mean that design work is included at no cost.
4. Generative AI Policy
Fables does not accept special edition artwork or designs created wholly or partly using generative AI.
This includes AI-generated or AI-altered:
By submitting a design, the author confirms that the work was created by a human artist or designer and that they have the necessary commercial rights to use it.
Fables may request original working files, artist information, licenses, or other reasonable evidence of how a design was created. Files suspected or confirmed to contain generative AI material will not be processed.
If undisclosed AI-generated material is discovered after a project begins, Fables may pause or cancel the project. Fees for work already completed and nonrefundable production expenses will not be refunded.
5. Template and File Requirements
Authors completing their own designs must follow all templates and preparation guides provided by Fables.
The author is responsible for correctly preparing:
File dimensions
Bleed and trim areas
Safe zones
Spine width and placement
Image resolution
Text and artwork alignment
Color settings
Fonts
File format
Any printer-specific requirements
Templates must not be resized, cropped, stretched, rearranged, or otherwise altered unless Fables provides written permission.
Fables will perform a basic technical review to confirm that the submitted files can be opened and generally match the required dimensions. This review is not a full design inspection, proofreading service, or guarantee that every element has been positioned correctly.
6. Incorrect Alignment and Author-Submitted Errors
The author is responsible for checking all author-created files before submission.
Fables is not responsible for printing or production issues caused by the author’s failure to follow the provided templates or guides, including:
Incorrect alignment
Content placed outside safe zones
Missing bleed
Incorrect spine placement
Low-resolution artwork
Missing or substituted fonts
Cropped text or images
Incorrect file dimensions
Spelling, grammar, or typographical errors
Incorrect colors or color settings
Fables will not repeatedly return files for unlimited corrections or continue reviewing multiple versions of incorrectly prepared files.
Files that do not meet the requirements may be rejected. The author may then correct the files independently or hire Fables to complete the necessary design work at the applicable rate. Fables is not responsible if the design prints with errors.
7. Proof Approval
Where a digital proof or mockup is provided, the author must carefully review it before approving production.
Approval confirms that the author has checked and accepted:
Text and spelling
Artwork and image placement
Alignment
Cover, spine, and back-cover content
Interior or inside-panel artwork
Special edition features
The overall appearance of the edition
Once the author approves the final files, Fables may send them to production. Changes may no longer be possible after production has started.
Minor differences may occur between digital previews and physical products due to printing, trimming, binding, materials, screen settings, and production methods.
8. Changes and Update Fees
After design files have been submitted or a final design has been approved, a USD $25 update fee will apply to each requested update.
The fee must be paid before the update is completed.
An update may include a reasonable correction or adjustment to an existing design. Multiple unrelated requests, extensive alterations, new artwork, a new concept, or a substantial redesign may require an additional quote.
Payment of an update fee does not guarantee that a change can be made after printing or production has begun.
Changes required because Fables made an error will not be charged to the author.
9. Special Edition Features
Authors may request features such as:
Requested features are subject to availability, production requirements, cost, minimum quantities, and supplier capabilities.
Submitting a request does not guarantee that every selected feature can be included.
10. Pricing and Production Approval
Authors may propose their preferred retail price based on the features included in their special edition.
Fables and the author must agree on the final:
Fables may recommend changes where the proposed edition or price is not technically or commercially practical.
11. Orders and Fulfillment
Fables will process approved special edition orders on the author’s behalf. Depending on the project, this may include collecting customer payments, coordinating production, managing product listings, fulfilling orders, and providing customer support.
Production and delivery dates are estimates unless expressly guaranteed in writing. Delays may occur because of manufacturing, material availability, shipping carriers, customs, weather, or other circumstances outside Fables’ reasonable control.
12. Royalties
Unless another arrangement is agreed to in writing, approved printing and shipping costs will be deducted from eligible sales revenue.
The remaining royalty amount will be divided:
50% to the author
50% to Fables
Refunded, canceled, fraudulent, reversed, or charged-back orders will not generate royalties.
The author will receive sales and royalty information showing how their available balance was calculated.
13. Royalty Payment Options
Authors may choose to receive their available royalty balance through one of the following options:
Payment when the balance reaches USD $50
One payment per calendar year
Fables credit for eligible services or merchandise
Balances below the selected payment threshold will continue to accumulate.
The author is responsible for providing accurate payment and tax information. International transfers may be subject to payment-provider, banking, currency-conversion, or legally required withholding charges.
Once a royalty balance has been converted into Fables credit, it cannot be converted back into cash unless required by applicable law.
14. Cancellations
An author may withdraw before production begins. However, the author remains responsible for approved design work, materials, supplier commitments, and other nonrefundable costs already incurred.
Once customer orders have been accepted or production has started, cancellation may not be possible.
Fables may pause or cancel a project if:
The author does not hold the necessary rights
Submitted files contain prohibited AI-generated material
Files repeatedly fail to meet production requirements
Required information, approvals, materials, or payments are not provided
The project becomes unlawful, unsafe, or technically impractical
The author materially breaches these terms
15. No Guaranteed Results
Fables does not guarantee a minimum number of orders, sales, royalties, reviews, audience growth, or other commercial results.
The author remains responsible for participating in the agreed promotion of their special edition.
16. Limitation of Responsibility
Fables is not responsible for problems caused by inaccurate information, unauthorized content, incorrectly prepared author files, author-approved errors, or failure to follow the supplied templates and instructions.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right or responsibility that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.
17. Acceptance
